Common errors in common illnesses...
More complaints, more medicines... In fact, this causes poor response even in the chief complaints of a child. Too many medicines frighten even a cooperative child. Always focus on core issues and help your child with good nursing..
Common practices that prolong the disease course like-
1. Bundle of clothes with wrinkled inner wears especially in winters.
2. Too many medicines.
3. Nose block
4. Forced feeding
5. Inappropriate use of heaters
6. High expectations
7. Keeping an unwarranted or unseen fear at the back of your mind.
Coping with your stress and facing it with planning and faith on the doc is the key. It all depends how you take it!

Vomitings are common during cough and cold in young children. It helps them clearing their airways. No need to add anti vomiting medicines to cough prescription until it is recommended by your Doctor...
Cough & cold are viral in nature, there's no need of Antibiotics in the first place.
Symptoms peak on day 3 to 4, it seems tempting to take antibiotic.
Not needed, until your doctor feels necessary.
Do not stress, do not talk much about cough in front of your child as it has psychogenic component also...
Use least medications but provide good nursing to comfort and soothe your child...

These days there's cough wave in young kids. Cough is dry or wet but more important classification is cough with or without breathlessness (or with fast breathing rate).
Cough with fast breathing rate in children is potentially dangerous and often parents miss the seriousness of it...
It requires urgent evaluation with a specialist Doctor.
When a child is having a high breathing rate, it is better to avoid solid food before doctor's advice. It can choke the baby and could be life-threatening.
Give her plenty of liquid but very slowly...
Nebulizers may or may not be effective...
Chances of deterioration is more in smaller children with unmeasured measures.

Major part of childhood illnesses are fever, cold and Diarrhea...
All these illnesses are self limiting and do not require antibiotics in majority of cases.
Most illnesses take 5 to 7 days to recover.
Patience, good examination and good nursing are more important than an antibiotic prescription.
There are no injections or antibiotics which can shorten the course of these infections...

Now it's not difficult to change the behavior of your young child.
Change him with Jazy Taara...
Let's see the plan, how it works ..
1. Show him Jazy Taara' movies for three days.
He will soon be fond of it, in fact addicted to itπŸ˜€
2. Now read Jazy's comic every night with him .
Last page has message "Why Jazy Taara is a nice boy?"
Now write all the changes you wish to bring in your loved one ..
Ex .. Your child does not eat yellow lentils or daal...
Now read Jazy Taara Accha Baccha kyun hai ?
Add one more line .. Jazy Taara loves yellow lentils.
Repeat this each night and see within 4 to 5 days, he will demand yellow lentil ..
Try this, as there is no medicine which can make your child eat yellow lentilπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

It is difficult to change a child the way we wish to change them.
No scolding, no punishment really works as they are innocent and do not have any understanding of consequences of their act.
They can only be taught in a friendly manner and by repetitive feedback to their brain...
Jazy Taara does this exactly, it is part of the behaviour changing communication for kids.

Fever...
These days viral fever tops the list of seasonal illnesses.
Fever is often accompanied by vomitings, reduced food intake, cough and irritability...
With so many symptoms, children are prescribed 3 to 4 medicines.
It is best to concentrate first on reducing fever with medicine / sponging/or with slow intake of glucose water...
As soon as child is afebrile, he starts accepting feeds and vomiting disappears. He becomes playful and accepts rest of the medicine comfortably...
Keep your child afebrile and pass the time of illness easily πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜Š

Dengue is scary for me too...
Dengue is a common viral infection spread by Aedes Mosquito.
Mosquito bites occur after Sunrise and before Sunset, very much unlike other mosquito bites causing Malaria.
Virus is of four types, like Den1 .....4. Infection for one type do not make a person immune to the other type. Even next Den attack is more serious.
Every year I fear , one day I may also have it. Please take all the precautions as there is no abortive treatment beside a strong vigilant supportive care.
It is more devastating at extremes of age i.e. in babies and elderly.

We in India have almost all facilities but still we do not match developed countries. Main difference lies in planning. One example is Rh disease/incompatibility in newborn, which causes them severe jaundice. If not treated properly it can lead to brain damage, deafness or sometimes death.
Treatment is exchange transfusion or immunoglobulin (a very expensive drug)
Baby comes to nursery with severe jaundice but parents are not even aware of mother's blood group (which is usually Rh negative). Family is not at all prepared for exchange. We often waste precious time in searching compatible Rh negative blood.
We all do similar blood exchange of babies. On the contrary our colleagues from developed countries even do not remember when they did last exchange transfusion.
Please do not ignore guidance of your doctor...

Symptoms are same but approaches are different for same symptoms...
Most common eg... Jaundice in a newborn baby...
60 percent of babies develop jaundice on day 3 of life... Treatment is very much individualised and depends on many factors like
1. Blood group of mother as well as of baby.
2. Baby is first baby of the couple or second one!
3. Is baby having adequate breastfeed?
4. Does baby have associated conditions like thyroid or some infections?
5. Few families genetically have lack of enzymes like G6PD or others...
6. It is always important to know whether first sibling had jaundice after birth or not...
7. There are many more reasons, which are rare but do occur. It is not only sunlight which affects it...
Please help us to plan better for your baby...

Our whatsapp is full of treatment queries and we get endless calls for treatment on phone. Now even facebook messenger is overflowing with long detailed messages for treatment.
It is very risky and life threatening to prescribe any medications just on behalf of symptoms.
Allopathy's main strength is a good physical examination, which helps us in excluding serious diseases or confirming diagnosis . Even if we say it seems like viral, it is only after good clinical examination otherwise in children even Malaria or typhoid can mimic viral infection ..there is no season-specific antidote available so far...
Moreover, course of childhood illnesses have become very unpredictable in recent years and some seriousness may be just missed until a repeated examination is carried out by doctor like Jaundice, Dengue fever and even more...
Even a problem as simple as cough could be a subtle sign of an underlying serious chest disease.
All diseases have signals for seriousness which are picked up early only by a doctor. eg telephonicTreatment of Diarrhea can be devastating as you do not know early deterioriation.

Teens do not think as parents think...
Teens may look like adults but they are not adults. Their brain matures functionally to adult level at around 20 years of age. Parents should not expect from teens, their level of maturity. They are different, parents should understand they are different.
Teens are more prone to accidents, drug addiction and the like... They should not be allowed independent driving and boundaries should be set for their social outings... they should be exposed to Internet ONLY under supervision. It is not about surge of hormone but it is about development of Prefrontal Cortex (part involved in decision making, motivation, organizing & attention).
This is the area which helps us to understand consequences of our act.
Prefrontal cortex develops to adult level at 20 yrs of age.
It does not mean they can not make good decisions but understanding of this differences helps parents to manage them better.

Day to day illnesses in children are mostly viral. Viral infections were always there, even when parents or grand parents were children. Nothing much has changed, parents do not remember their time of illness and get surprised each time when child gets sick. Why so much worry for cough, loose motions or fever? Check up with his Doctor is reassuring. These illnesses usually last for 6 to 7 days. Just keep your child well-hydrated and keep his fever down with medicine or sometimes with sponging. Do not ask for change of medicine, keep patience and follow your doctor...

We all love our children and we want to be loved by them also. We often bribe them with candies, chips and rice/corn puffs etc. You want your relationship with your kith and kin really useful... Just play with them, run with them... Don't bribe them.

Don't break my heart Daddy..
Recently I admitted a 3 year old girl for headache and vomitings. I was unable to find anything wrong with her. I got her CT Scan head done which was normal. I constantly kept asking for any emotional hurt to the child . Parents were not aware, and as child was becoming more listless, it was making them more upset. I kept enquiring as medicines were
not working on her. Her father tried to recall all events in the past two days and he managed to tell that she had banged her head with her cousin while playing. Then she complained to her father about the small quarrel with her cousin but he didn't listen, in fact scolded her a little. She fell asleep after crying and woke up after sometime with headache and vomitings.
I talked to her and asked her father to give her a cuddle. She improved tremendously and now could be sent home.
My message to all of you, please listen to your kids patiently as you as parents are the only ones in the world they trust. Hold them close to you, explain to them and not just shun them.
Few children are very sensitive (imagine this child is just a 3 year old). Even a little insensitivity can break their heart.

Kids are very innocent, very delicate emotionally. They love their mother, they love their maid too.
Whenever they are away from their maid, they become sad. They are very attached with their caretaker, in her absence they even stop eating. Sometimes they weep and cry non stop. They miss their loved one.
Kids are much more emotional than we are. Do not be rude with them... Do not leave them alone... Do not forcefully feed them. Every hurt leaves them with some imprint on their hearts and minds...

Celiac disease...
Our daily diet has more than 50 percent of carbohydrates. And main carbohydrate is wheat or products made through wheat.
Bread, sujee, maidaa are all derived from Wheat.
Wheat has a protein, known as Gluten.
Few of us are genetically sensitive to this protein and cannot tolerate even little amounts of it. It results in Celiac disease.
These patients manifest as Persistent Diarrhea...
Anaemia...
Growth Failure...
Even Constipation...
Skin disease...
And it may present in other ways too.
Unfortunately there is no cure and fortunately all disease manifestations reverse after stopping wheat from food list...
Disease is more common in Punjabis and North Indians in our country...

Poor appetite is more of perception than a disease...
Who knows better than a Doctor?
Parents and grand parents are usually too worried about the appetite of their child and always look for fast solution...
Answer is with parents only, they need to think differently...
If doctor says, cut down on milk intake or cut down on soft drinks and juices, follow him rather than following your whims...
Every child is unique but their problems are not unique...
All children behave similarly age-wise like One to Walk, Two to Talk... same goes for their appetite also...
Doctor always gives advice for the good...

To discuss the treatment on phone is a Big Mess...
As child is not in front of Doctor, it is very difficult to judge on behalf of complaint narrated by parents...
It is further complicated as even common medicines are not available everywhere and parents are not confident about the name of drug as it was discussed on phone...
So it creates a vicious cycle of confusion.
Dear Friends it is the proper examination which decides the correct treatment...
It is always better to consult a nearby available doctor rather than discussing it on Phone...
It is more peaceful and feasible...
