Sick Kids are more prone for infections...
Children are sometimes hospitalized for severe illnesses. These illnesses further lower their immunity and make them prone for infections. They need more care and isolation.
They should not only be protected from current illness but from catching new infections. 
It is not nice practice to visit sick kids, you can show your concern by asking over phone or by sending greeting cards or toys...
