Dog bite and monkey bites are quite common here...
Whenever we see any child with bite, we do advise them vaccination. Although with small bite and scratches, parents avoid injections. They come to us for satisfaction...
We consider many points before taking decision like
1. Whether animal is stray or Pet ?
2. Immunisation of animal?
3. History of Rabies vaccination in Victim.
4. Bite is provoked or unprovoked?
Since Rabies is a fatal illness and there is no treatment, once you developed it. Doctors are little more conservative and advise three injections at least and tight watch on animal.
Vaccination of animals is doubtful as quality of vaccination is uncertain.
Most of the children are vaccinated for tetanus along with DPT. They generally do not require tetanus vaccine.
Antiboitics are required to prevent wound infections.
Whenever in doubt, go for complete schedule as prescribed by your doctor...
