Teeth Grinding or Bruxism...
It is very common in children as up to 30 percent children grind their teeth for sometime.
Exact cause is not known, pin worm, dehydration, stress, adenoids, sleep apnoea are common associations.
There are two peaks of Bruxism, One at eruption of primary dentition and other at eruption of permanent dentition. Grinding generally stops when eruption is complete respectively.
It is better to check your child for ruling out Adenoids and sleep apnoea with doctor.
It is always better to talk to your child before sleep about his day- long activities, and calm down his anxiety to let him peacefully into slumber.
For preschool children, jaw relaxing exercises are helpful, like ask him to keep his tongue in between the teeth for some time.
Children who have teeth attrition, jaw pain, fatigue or headache in morning must be evaluated through standard Polysomnography to exclude Bruxism as the cause of it.
Teeth Grinding is not as simple as worm infestation...
